What type of Medical Exam is required to buy life insurance?
A free life insurance medical exam, paid for by the insurance company, is required for most life insurance companies and amounts (If no medical exam is required life insurance prices will be much, much higher and the amount you can purchase limited). The life insurance medical exam can be completed at your home, your office or any other convenient location. The medical exam will take about 30 minutes and will be conducted by an insurance company approved and licensed paramedic, registered nurse or medical doctor who will contact you to schedule your exam. A life insurance medical exam generally involves a blood and urine specimen,
blood pressure reading and height and weight measurement. In addition, a
series of questions regarding your medical history will be asked. The examiner
will ask questions regarding medical conditions, surgeries, medications,
or other treatments you may have had. He or she will also ask the names and
addresses of physicians and/or hospitals that have treated you. You may wish
to make a few notes in advance to save time during the exam. If additional testing such as a specific questionnaire or electrocardiogram (EKG) is needed, the arrangements will be made by the examiner. In most cases, an EKG is not required unless specifically requested by the insurance company. What happens with my life insurance medical exam information? All exam results are sent directly to the Life Insurance Company underwriting staff by your medical examiner. To protect your privacy, neither 1stQuote nor any other party has access to your personal medical history or test results. Your life insurance medical exam results are reviewed and used by the life insurance company underwriters and physicians to determine your eligibility, health classification (super preferred, preferred, standard plus or standard) and pricing of your policy. Can I get a copy of my lab test results? Upon your written request your test results will be made available to you by the insurance company. Simply request these results in writing at the time your return your completed application packet to 1stQuote and we'll ask the life insurance company to forward their results directly to you.
