Will term life insurance cost more if I smoke cigarettes or use other forms of tobacco?
Smoker life insurance rates are higher than for non-smokers. In order to qualify for non-smoker rates, most life insurance companies ask that you to be a non-smoker from one year (for standard rates) to five years or even ten years (for super preferred rates.) In many cases companies look at other tobacco (cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco) users much like smokers. However, several companies allow pipe, cigar, and chewers to qualify as non-smokers, and effective October 2006 several top rated companies will allow daily cigar smokers super preferred insurance rates. Our health class analyzer will place you in the correct rate class and provide you with accurate rates when completing your term life insurance quote. Please let us know if you use tobacco other than cigarettes when you complete your application request. |
